malaysiakini on the OBAMA Challenge to CHANGE MALAYSIA...
So a black man has defied his roots and become the first President of the USA. Already there is talk and the President-Elect and his family could become the target of extreme elements of US society as I am sure there will be a few who belong to the fringe who want to erase this historic development.
In Malaysia too, our soon to be ex-PM has come out with a remarkable statement that any Malaysian too can become the Prime Minister. He could have been a little more constructive by suggesting the 10 steps that Malaysia must take to set the stage right - or was he just sleep-talking?
As usual Joe Plumber in Malaysia can see the problems more clearly as in this malaysiakini article Your Say: 'America has changed; will we ever?'lamenting the fact that PKNS employees objected to the appointment of a Chinese woman to take up the GM's post. They did not say if the objection was that she was a Chinese or that a woman was being appointed or both.
Malaysia too can change but Obama's acceptance speech is worth listening to. He says "You did not vote for me but you voted for yourself". So if we want change, that change must come from us. We too MUST CHANGE for Malaysia.

CAN WE DREAM FOR A CHANGE LIKE AMERICA? WE HAVE TO CHANGE OUR MINDSET. WE HAD GREAT HOPES ON PAKATAN RAKYAT BUT EVEN PAKATAN RAKYAT PARTIES ( PKR, DAP & PAS) ARE FALLING INTO THE TRAP OF RACE AND RELIGION. IF PR WANTS TO BE A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE TO BN THEY MUST, FIRST, GET RID OF THEIR ATTACHMENT TO RACE AND RELIGION AND FIGHT FOR ALL MALAYSIANS. SAD TO SAY THAT SO FAR THERE WAS NO ACTION ON THE PART OF PKR ON DR ZUL, MP FOR BANDAR KULIM, WHO BARGED AT BAR FORUM. WHEREAS PAS, SOME OF THEIR ACTIONS, LIKE THE PKNS ISSUE, MAKE US FEEL SUSPICIOUS ABOUT THEIR REAL MOTIVE. DURING THE PRU12 CAMPAIGN, THEIR SLOGAN WAS “PAS FOR ALL” BUT NOW THERE ARE HARPING ON RACE AND RELIGION. IF PAS REALLY WANTS TO PORTRAY AS MULTIRACIAL AND MULTIRELIGIOUS THEY MUST RECRUIT DIRECT MEMBERSHIP AND NOT THROUGH PAS SUPPORTERS CLUB. ISLAM DOESN’T DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN RACE AND RELIGION. ISLAM HAS GREATER RESPECT FOR OTHER RELIGIONS. YOUR RELIGION IS YOURS AND MY RELIGION IS MINE. ISN’T CORRECT? I HAVE GREATER RESPECT FOR TOK GURU NIK AZIZ AND I HOPE HE WILL PERSUADE PAS LEADERS TO CHANGE THE PARTY’S CONSTITUTION TO ALLOW THE PARTY TO RECRUIT DIRECT MEMBERSHIP. DON’T CONFUSE PEOPLE AS THOUGH YOU HAVE AN HIDDEN AGENDA. PAS, PLEASE WALK THE TALK. LEADERS OF PAKATAN RAKYAT MUST THINK AND ACT AS MALAYSIANS, DEVOID OF RACE AND RELIGION, TO REALIZE OUR DREAM FOR CHANGE LIKE AMERICA.
